Ovarian Cysts & Endometriosis

Ovarian Cysts & Endometriosis

  • Ovarian Cysts

Ovarian cysts are very common in women. Most cysts are benign (80%) but some cysts can be cancerous. Common symptoms are:

    • Painful periods
    • Absent periods
    • Heavy periods
    • Pelvic pain or pain in the lower abdomen
    • Bloatedness or indigestion
    • We will do certain blood tests and also an ultrasound scan to view the morphology (type)of the cyst. By calculating the Risk of Malignant assessment, we can then advise you further.

Most often ovarian cysts may resolve spontaneously unless the size is above average.

      Treatment options are:

    • Medication to ease the pain
    • Short term hormonal therapy to control symptoms
    • We will discuss options of management which may include further medication or surgery. If surgery is indicated then most often in 90% of cases we offer you key hole surgery (Laparoscopic Ovarian Cyst surgery in Selangor) unless rarely there is a suspicion of cancer in in which case traditional surgery is done.

  • Endometriosis

Endometriosis is another common condition which affects 23-25% of Malaysian women. Common symptoms are:

    • Painful or heavy periods
    • Pain during sex
    • Pain in the back, pelvis or abdomen
    • Delayed fertility
    • Symptoms vary between women and the severity depends on where the endometriotic spots are.

      Treatment options are:

    • Medication to ease the pain and discomfort.
    • Short term hormonal therapy. This will help ease your symptoms.
    • Depending on the size of the cysts and the severity of symptoms then a surgical option may be offered.
    • In most cases key hole surgery can be done. Please view here.
